An absolutely brilliant day was had by everyone today, thanks to the weather and the return of Maurice and Michael. Richard and I were joined by a member significant to the Pythoneers – Chair of the Trust, Robin Stonebridge. Pete once again joined Mick and Branson on Phoenix.
The amount of different scenery passed today was absolutely fantastic, as was the weather. The crew worked really well with one another today and we even bumped into Arthur and Rod.
Today also saw the leg where broad locks come into action so Python and Phoenix could double up making locking time quicker! It was the last leg of the Chesterfield Canal for us to do. Apart from reaching the Trent, the bit I was most looking forward to today was Drakeholes Tunnel which gave us a chance to test the new headlight!
We have now done the east side of the Canal from Shireoaks, some for the first time like me and some for probably the dozenth time.
If it continues like this, all I can say is that we are in for a great summer trip!
Tomorrow, Arthur and Maurice take the boat up the Trent going south to Newark. So wait for the next blog update to see how that goes.

Summer returns for the Python adventures, and long may it last. We passed the Worksop and Retford Boat Club around lunchtime, about halfway through the day’s trip. I’m proud to be part of ensuring its continued heritage. I’ve really enjoyed my first full day aboard and I’m really impressed with the welcome I’ve received since joining the crew – thank you.
