The Derbyshire section of the canal is owned by Derbyshire County Council and run by its Countryside Service. It is used regularly for paddlesports, notably by Pleasley Canoe Club and the Dukes Barn.
To get a licence for this western section, apply to the Derbyshire County Council’s Countryside Service. Click here for further information. It is free for Paddle UK (formerly British Canoeing) members, but you should still contact the Countryside Service to give them your PUK/BC membership number and postcode – 01629 533020 or countrysideservice@derbyshire.gov.uk.
Please note that if you are not a member of Paddle UK, you will need to provide proof of insurance which must cover at least third party liability up to £1 million.
If you launch from Hollingwood Hub or Tapton Lock, Paddle UK members can register in our Information Centre & Shops at both locations, however others must register with the Countryside Service.
The eastern section from Kiveton Park to the River Trent, is owned by the Canal & River Trust, click here for further information. Again it is free for PUK/BC members.
