Over the weekend of 26th and 27th September, we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Chesterfield Canal Society, which later became the Chesterfield Canal Trust.
The event is being hosted by the Retford & Worksop Boat Club in Clayworth, DN22 9AJ.
On both days, all our boats which are based on the canal in Nottinghamshire will be there.
Our two tripboats, Seth Ellis, usually moored at Ranby, and Hugh Henshall, usually moored at Shireoaks, will both be running cruises on both days. Seth Ellis will be doing 45 minute return cruises and Hugh Henshall, which has a wheelchair lift, will be running 90 minute cruise. You can book these cruises in advance. Our 97-year-old ex-British Waterways workboat, Python, which does clean-ups from March to November will be on show. You will be able to speak to the volunteers and learn exactly what they do and how they do it. You might even sign up to join them for a day or two.
You will also be able to visit our replica Cuckoo boat, Dawn Rose, which is unique to our canal. Hand built over four years by volunteers; it was launched in 2015. Will you be able to squeeze into one of the tiny cabins?
Our promotional trailer, James Brindley, will be in attendance on both days, with Trust merchandise and information.
The RWBC Club House Bar will be open all weekend with full facilities.
The main event will be on Sunday 27th. Besides everything listed above, NANNR’s Horse Box will have a range of Hot and Cold Food and speciality Teas & Coffees. 
There will be two illustrated talks by Rod Auton in the morning and afternoon (different content) showing the progress begun by the original Society up to the multimillion pound restoration works being run by the Trust today, and our plans for the future.
Musical interludes will continue with the Worksop Miners’ Welfare Colliery Band. There will be Face Painting and Hook-a-Duck to keep the young ones entertained. We hope to have some Stationary Engines and Classic Cars on site.
There will be plenty of free parking.
This will be a public event. Everybody will be welcome to share these Anniversary Celebrations.
