The weedcutters had been working their way down the canal from Tapton Lock all week.

The last section to be cut was Hartington Harbour. To do this, the two boats had to get through Staveley Town Lock.

This was tricky because the cutting mechanism was a lot wider than 7′, so it had to be raised and rotated.

The collection bucket was also too wide, so the end sections had to be removed. They were on the back of the boat.

After getting through the lock and under the tailbridge, the cutting mechanism was lowered and rotated …..

….. until it was ready to go.

The other boat had to stop so that the end sections could be refitted.

It then set off …..

….. met the cutting boat under Eckington Road Bridge …..

….. and then dumped the collected weed on the off bank.
