We are often asked about memorials along the canal. We are always looking for new ideas for fund raising. Our Vice Chair, Jim Bower, came up with the brilliant idea of a Supporters of scheme for our tripboats.
We have started with the Hugh Henshall, which is our latest tripboat, based at Kiveton Park.

Mrs Hurst and daughter beside the plaque
The boat now has a plaque on each side bearing the legend “Supporters of the Hugh Henshall”. The first name under this plaque is Ron Hurst.
The whole Hurst family came to see the plaques on 27th September. They had a fabulous day and were treated royally by the Hugh Henshall crew. This included a full presentation of the building and fitting out of the boat. They then went for a two hour cruise.
The Hurst family used to live beside the canal at Turnerwood, and have many stories about the canal.
If you would like to join the scheme, please contact Jim Bower on 01246 271923 or 07899 755362 or email vicechair@chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk. You can choose any of our three tripboats – the Hugh Henshall or the Seth Ellis, which is based at Retford, or the John Varley, which is based in Chesterfield.
The Hurst family wanted the plaque as a memorial, but it could be to celebrate a new-born child or a special event or from an organisation; the choice is yours.
The cost is £500 which includes the plaque, a two hour cruise and photos of the day.
