We have been awarded a grant as part of the Staveley Town Deal to restore a section of canal between Staveley and the Doe Lea Valley.
One of the conditions of the funding is to prove that the restoration adds benefit to the local area. A method of assessing this is to monitor the use of the existing path network before and after the restoration project to prove an increase in visitors to the area.
To monitor visitor numbers, the Trust has placed numerous pedestrian counters around the area. The counters use an infra-red beam which, when broken, counts a passage. There are no cameras within the units and no other data can be collected. The counters will be in place for the duration of the project and beyond, probably up to 2027.
