6th July 2010
On Saturday 3rd July 2010, the new slipway at Sleaford was opened. The Chesterfield Canal Trust was represented by our promotional trailer the James Brindley which got a lot of interest as usual.
The first boat to use the slipway after the ribbon cutting ceremony was John Lower’s Schandelle. (John is the Editor of Cuckoo, the Trust’s award-winning magazine.) He gave a ride to various dignitaries under the new lift bridge.
We had hoped to take our trip boat Seth Ellis to give rides over the weekend, but the water is very shallow and the Environment Agency denied permission for the water level to be raised.
We thank the Sleaford Navigation Trust for their wonderful hospitality. Their campaign to restore this lovely waterway has led to a superb area right in the middle of the town. It is well worth a visit and makes us long for the time when our new terminal basin at Waterside in Chesterfield is open.
