The towpath is incredibly popular for cycling. Since lockdown, the number of cyclists has increased hugely. This is particularly true of the Derbyshire section, the stretch from Kiveton Park to Worsop and through Retford.
The overwhelming majority of cyclists are very polite and travel at reasonable speeds.
However, we regularly receive reports of a few cyclists of all ages travelling very fast with scant regard for other towpath users.

Please note that pedestrians have priority over cyclists on towpaths.
Please be especially careful when passing Hollingwood Hub and note that certain sections of the canal in Derbyshire, e.g. between Station Road and Bluebank Lock, have a separate advisory path for cyclists that does not follow the towpath.
