This is from the Canal & River Trust
In January 2022, we held a public consultation on proposals to carry out this upgrade work, and planning permission was granted by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in summer 2022. The programme of works is progressing well and we expect all work to be completed by late 2023 / early 2024.
We are planning to build 15 stepped fishing platforms around the reservoir, for both day-to-day and competitive fishing use by anglers to enhance the fishing experience at the reservoir. The new dedicated fishing platforms will help to preserve the reservoir by minimising damage to its stonework and sides. This will protect the reservoir and ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.
As the proposal for fishing platforms was not included in our original planning application, we will need to submit a variation to that planning application before we can begin construction.
Before we submit the application, we would like to share the plans for the fishing platforms with you and ask for your feedback. You can read more about the proposals and submit your feedback by visiting our webpage. If you require the feedback form in an alternative format, please do get in touch to let us know. The consultation will be open until Thursday 3 August 2023 at 5pm.
Finally, the archaeological survey commissioned in 2022 has been completed, and a summary of the findings is available on our webpage, along with a link to the full archaeological report.
All of the latest updates will be posted on Canal & River Trust’s website.
