Hollingwood Hub is the home of the Chesterfield Canal Trust. It has been open for 9½ years. It is often used as a model of good practice, e.g. How water adds value (starts at 5:40), a video made by the Canal & River Trust and Waterways in Progress (starts at 3:10), a video by the Inland Waterways Association.
Here we have some photos showing its construction.
11th February 2008.

22nd April 2010. Ground cleared. Note the state of the lock house.
23rd September. Towpath closed; Heras fencing up. The canal was open for navigation throughout the construction. Photo © John Lower
26th October. Framework going up.
29th October. Framework complete; work starts on lock house.
3rd November. Scaffolding on lock house.
24th November. Floor base inside extension; chimney on lock house complete; roof work on lock house.
30th November. Snow stops play!
29th December. Extension walls going up. Note the piles of bricks for internal walls.
14th January 2011. Scaffolding round extension. Note the piles of insulation.
24th February. Extension walls complete; roof going on; lock house roof complete; pointing done; windows in.
3rd March. Scaffolding up again on lock house.
8th March. Extension roof complete; windows in; scaffolding gone.
22nd March. Patio and veranda being laid; passivents being installed.
28th March. Block paving being laid; passivents complete.
6th April. Netting on bank to stop slippage.
20th April. Topsoil down; back fence in place; external lights fitted.
23rd April. Towpath open.
5th May. Heras fencing gone; cycle rings and door stops installed.
1st June. First day of opening to the public.

This is the Meeting Room looking through to the Coffee Shop before the toilets were built. Note the hoses on the floor for the underfloor heating. They are now encased in concrete.
