There was a paddleboarders’ rally on the Chesterfield Canal today.
A large number of paddlers ranging from expert instructors to first timers turned up at Hollingwood Hub.
They set off towards Chesterfield to go to Tapton Lock and then return.
They were accompanied by lots of supporters walking or cycling.
To get a licence for this western section, apply to Tapton Lock Visitor Centre. Full information, including prices and forms are here. It is free for British Canoeing members, but you should still contact the Visitor Centre to give them your BC membership number and postcode; ring 01629 533020 or email countrysideservice@derbyshire.gov.uk. If you launch from Hollingwood Hub, you can register in our Information Centre & Shop there.
The eastern section from Kiveton Park to the River Trent, is owned by the Canal & River Trust, click here for further information. Again it is free for BC members.
In the spring, we will start hiring paddleboards and kayaks from Hollingwood Hub, see the panel on the right.
