22nd September 2019
Our second Walking Festival has proved to be a huge success, with record numbers taking part. Lovely weather has certainly helped.
The variety of walks on offer has been excellent – a bat walk, birdspotting, heritage, nature, architecture, historic churches, restoration etc. plus of course our famous Boats & Boots combining a walk with a cruise on one of our tripboats.
We are very grateful to our sponsors – Bassetlaw District Council and the Canal & River Trust – without their support it would not have been possible.
The good news is that we are planning our third Chesterfield Canal Walking Festival to run from 12th to 20th September 2020. The full programme will appear on our website in June.

Pride of place in our Festival is the Full Length Walk where the group covers all 46 miles. Here they are ready to leave from West Stockwith on the banks of the River Trent.

Almost there – Tapton Mill Bridge, which is bridge no. 1.

Arrival at Holbeck Close, the site of the new terminal basin, with Chesterfield’s Crooked Spire in the background.
