We have lots of old photos of the canal, but it’s nice to see a set that were all taken by the same person at roughly the same period.
Below is a selection from a large set taken by Peter Hawkins in the 1960s.

This is Cow Lane or Bilby Lane Bridge.
The original Dixon’s Lock which was swept away be opencast mining in the late 1980s. The current Dixon’s Lock was built by our volunteer Work Party and opened in 1995.
Hollingwood Lock.

Spinkhill Narrows on the Railway Mile between Renishaw and Killamarsh. Boiley New Bridge is in the background.

Stret Lock from Highground Bridge. Now the Lock Keeper pub is on the right and Sandy Lane Bridge crosses just below the lock. This was taken in the 1970s.
Retford Town Lock. The Bay Tree Café & Bistro is now on the right and Retford Mariners on the left.
Whitsunday Pie Lock, or Wizney Pie to the locals.
Looking south from Clayworth Bridge. The old White Hart Inn on the right is now the Retford & Worksop Boat Club.

The view from West Stockwith across the River Trent to East Stockwith. This has scarcely changed at all.
