Thank you very much indeed for the incredible 248 donations to this fund, which has now closed.
With Gift Aid, it came to the staggering total of £24,156.25.
We will be contacting all those who asked for Rewards in the next few days, but we are very grateful to each and every donor.
UPDATE – 20th November 2023
The £1 million AVIVA Save Our Wild Isles fund has now been fully allocated.
Fom today we will receive match funding from the AVIVA Community Fund for the remainder of the project, which means that they will give us £1 for every £1 donated from now on.
We have already reached over £16,000 including Gift Aid from 125 donors. Thank you very much indeed.

UPDATE – 15th November 2023
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, £4,000 donated so far has been turned into £12,000 by AVIVA.
However, the AVIVA double match funding (£2 for every £1 donated) may be running out soon so please encourage anyone you know to give sooner rather than later.
Please note if you have already given to this appeal your second donation won’t be match funded – so we all need to get onto our friends and contacts who might be interested in maximising their giving.

We have been approved by the AVIVA Community Fund to run a Crowdfunder appeal as part of their Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund. This is providing £1 million to help community groups across the UK to protect and restore nature in their local area.
AVIVA will kick start the fund with £500 and will give us £2 for every £1 we raise up to a maximum of £15,000. This means that if we can raise £7,500 in the next six weeks, AVIVA will turn it into £23,000 (with Gift Aid this would be up to £24,500).
The appeal only lasts for six weeks, so it will finish on 19th December.
We will be building the new Trans-Pennine Trail bridge at Hartington in the spring and we are appealing for monies to help create a great canalside environment for people and wildlife around the new bridge, giving nature a head start and creating a suitable setting for the new lock which will be built early in 2025. (We will be opening an appeal towards the gates for this new lock in December.)
The Aviva funding is “first come first served” so please do give as soon as you can. Only your first donation will be matched but we can recover Gift Aid on all your eligible donations. Only donations through this site are eligible for this extra funding, so please click on the link below.

This was the site in the 1960s. The canal went under the railway bridge and diagonally under the old Great Central Railway bridge on the left.
