The photo on the right was taken at Renishaw in April 2010. It shows the hole being dug for the new slipway.
Since this time the site has been beset with problems including land ownership and our three year wait for the local water company to move a water pipe. Because of these problems, our Work Party had to stop work at Renishaw and move to Staveley where they have done wonders. They left the Renishaw site fenced off
Unfortunately the local vandals have taken a keen interest in the site, repeatedly wrecking the fencing. Earlier this week they broke into our container and threw the equipment, chairs etc. into the canal as well as damaging the fencing again. As a result we have reluctantly decided to fill in the slipway excavation.
In the photo below, you can see the slipway hole on the left. This will be filled from the spoil on the right. However we first have to cut up and move the coping stones stored there. When the whole job has been done, we will be able to remove the fencing.
It is not yet clear when our Work Party will return to the site, but you can be certain that return we shall and that boats will eventually pass this way on their journey from the Trent to Chesterfield.
